Yesterday I posted about some of the ways I preserve memories of/for my kid(s). Before I had Reece, I knew that I wanted to find some easy way to do this because I didn't even stay on top of my scrapbooking before I had any kids! My sister in law had received a pre-made scrap/photo book before she had her first child, and I liked the idea of it, but decided to add more to it.
I include two pages for each month, and each holiday. I also include two pages for blessing day and birthday. You could go even farther, adding pages for firsts: tooth, bath, haircut, etc. But for me, what I've got going is enough!
Each month/holiday has two pages with three spots for pictures, and one spot for journaling. The journaling is not much; if it's for a month, I just make two columns and list likes and dislikes. It is a fun glimpse into their personalities at certain stages. For holidays, I just write how we celebrated. For the blessing day, I write down the things that my husband blessed our daughter(s) with. You could choose not to include this, and could also add more spaces for pictures if you want.
What you need:
- scrapbook paper
- coordinating cardstock
- your choice of adhesive (I'm a fan of double sided tape!)
Arrange your paper in order, starting with the month of birth or birthday, going through each month and holiday until the following birthday.
I have pre-made templates of how big I want the photo spaces and the journaling spaces to be. I cut the cardstock with my paper cutter, and adhere it to the two pages.
I go through and do this to all of the pages before doing anything else.
Then I go back through and add some small embellishments to each page. Again, nothing fancy, but just a little extra.
All that's left to do is add some pictures and some journaling! It's a quick, easy way to once or twice a month add a little bit and then have something great to pass on to your kid(s).
Here are a few examples from Reece's first year scrapbook, and a couple from her second year book. We obviously aren't in to her second year book too much yet, and baby sister's is just waiting to be started!
