A couple of weeks ago, my mom was in town visiting, and we were sitting there having a conversation as I checked my email. My mom was mid-sentence when I started squealing over an email I had received; an email that asked me if I would like to review the Silhouette CAMEO.
I can't think of a single person who would turn this down, and answered with a resounding YES!
It was seriously like Christmas when the lovely UPS man rang my doorbell to give me my new toy. Would it be wrong if I shed a tear?
I brought it upstairs and immediately took it out of the box to admire it. That's about as far as I got before weekend plans, and then baby Harper took priority.
Luckily, I was able to sit down with my new CAMEO and make a little holiday project for our home: ornaments!
Every year growing up, my parents would give us a new ornament to put on the Christmas tree. I love this tradition, and loved being able to take so many with me when it was time for me to start having my own Christmas tree. Since being married and having kids, we've continued this tradition.
This year, I was at Tai Pan (a local home good store that is amazing) and found some cute ornaments for my girls. Then I found the ornaments that I wanted for my husband and I.
Until I read the price tag. $8 an ornament? Sorry, I can't quite justify that.
What I can justify? Buying a four pack of ornaments for $4 and bringing them home to make my own!
What you need:
- CAMEO/Silhouette SD/other digital cutting machine
- glitter glaze paint
- transfer tape
I started off by using the text feature in the Silhouette software to type the word 'believe.'
I cut my vinyl using my new CAMEO. The new blade is awesome because you don't have to switch out different caps for different media. When you click on what media you are using, it tells you what to set your blade to. You can do this with the separate cap, or the CAMEO has a built in cap that you can twist your blade to set it. Sweet!
The CAMEO is much quieter than the SD, which I like. That will especially be nice when I use it and my kids are awake; sometimes the noises of the SD were a little much with them running around making noise, too!
I also loved the LCD display. It is much easier to read whatever sort of light you are working in. It's a clean display, and looks really nice.
Now that my vinyl was cute, I peeled up the negative space, rubbed some transfer tape over my word, and rubbed it on to my ornaments.
Then I went over the ornaments with this glitter glaze paint to give them a little bit more shimmer and shine. What can I say, I love sparkles!
I think they look pretty lovely hanging on my tree, don't you?
