Keeps the doctor away?
Okay, wrong saying. But a panty a day WILL keep your cute little lady’s bum clean, and I couldn’t resist making these for my three and a half year old.
Plus, I found her some new panties in my favorite color combo right now: purple and coral! Perfect! (On a side note, did you know it is near impossible to find plain white panties? At lease it was where I looked! But these are more fun anyway.)
What you need:
- panties
- fabric paint
- freezer paper
- digital cutter (Lucy II got in on the action!)
- paint brush
- cardboard
The first thing I did was measure the width of the panties so I knew how big to make the days of the week. I put them on the bum, but you could easily do the front as well!
Next, you’ll want to use your digital cutter to design your words. I went with a different font for each day of the week.
Cut the words out on freezer paper. Put the shiny side down on your cutting mat. I used a vellum setting and Lucy cut it great!
Pop out your letters, but be sure to save any holes for letters! Iron the day of the week on to the pair of panties.
Stick a piece of cardboard (I used cut up cereal box) underneath where you will be painting so that the paint doesn’t seep through. Do two coats.
I mixed my fabric paint with some regular acrylic paint to get the colored ones.
When the paint is dry, carefully peel up your freezer paper. It’s not shown here, but I used the velveteen fabric paint, so I’ll use my iron to steam it and make the letters pop up.
Pretty cute, right?
She may even learn her days of the week now!
What do you call them? My husband hates that I say panties and that our daughter calls them panties. But it was too late for him to run interference.

Did you iron the freezer paper down before you started painting? I haven't tried this before so I am just wondering how you got it to stay so flat and not have the paint seep under the paper...
ReplyDeleteYes, I did. You place the shiny side down, and then iron it to get it to adhere. Then it peels right up!

ReplyDeleteHow cute are those! I don't know if you ca buy them anymore or not but I used to wear them when I was in grade school. Darling panties and great job! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteLOL!! When I first read the title, I thought it said "A pantry a day..." So at first I was so confused at the panties. Again, you are the cutest mom! I absolutely LOVE this idea! So cute!
ReplyDeleteWe call them knickers here. I never liked the name of the week ones, cos if it was the wrong day my kids wouldn't wear them!

ReplyDeleteThese are awesome!! I want some for me! One question, I just used Freezer Paper for the first time with my Silhouette, and I feel like it dulled my blade. Any words of wisdom?
ReplyDeleteI wish I did! I haven't noticed a difference with my blade. How's that for very un-helpful?!? :) Sorry, I wish I had a better answer!
