This post was originally shared on Alida Makes as part of Alida's Calling All Kids series. The series pushed us to think outside the box, and out of traditional styles for girls and boys. It was a lot of fun!
I love the idea behind this series. We have three little girls, and zero little boys, so thinks can get a bit pink…and glittery around here. And there’s for sure nothing wrong with that! I can appreciate a good ruffle. But it is fun to think outside the box, and try to find ways to incorporate different styles and colors in more non-traditional ways. For me, primary colors seem to be directed more at boys, and I thought it would be fun to use some of those colors in my girls’ wardrobes for the spring and summer.
I’ve been eyeing Peek-A-Boo Pattern Shop's Bermuda Shorts for a long time, and while you definitely see Bermudas for both girls and boys, I see that longer style of shorts more on boys. So I took that pattern, and dolled it up a little bit for my oldest, Reece. I loved the contrast of the blue and yellow, so I added the yellow to the bottom few inches of the pattern, and then sewed some lace around where the seam was.
I think the back pocket flaps might be my favorite part; they just add a little extra to these already darling shorts! I love how the blue print is more geometric, and the yellow print is more damask-y. It is fun to mix patterns and colors, and I really couldn’t be happier with how these turned out! You can even see a little bit of yellow pocket lining peeking out there. Isn’t that fun?
What do you think, is she ready to hit the beach?
Oh wait, we’re in Utah, which means we’re due for at least a few more snow storms before we can start enjoying the warmer weather. Promise me you’ll go enjoy some nice weather for us?
