.:Tutorial Tuesday - Washi Tags:.

Every summer, my mom, sisters, and sister in laws do a favorite things exchange on our annual family vacation. This year I decided to gussy up the bags holding my favorite things with these simple and easy washi tags.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Washi Tags: Super easy, super cute, & the perfect finishing touch to any gift!

You can’t tell me that you wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of one of those. I’m tempted to keep one for myself to be honest.

These are super simple, super quick, but add just the perfect finishing touch.

Here’s what you need to make some washi tags of your own:

- cardstock
- Cricut
- washi tape
- twine
- double sided tape/glue stick/some other adhesive

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Washi Tags: Super easy, super cute, & the perfect finishing touch to any gift!

Start off by designing the tag in the Cricut Craft Room software. You can search ‘tag’ to find lots of different options.

I decided I wanted to cut out the first initial of each person’s name on their tag. I searched ‘monograms’ to find lots of fun initial options.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Washi Tags: Super easy, super cute, & the perfect finishing touch to any gift!

Once the initials are all on, it’s time to cut.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Washi Tags: Super easy, super cute, & the perfect finishing touch to any gift!

After cutting out the tags, I decided that I didn’t want the negative space from the initial to just be empty,

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Washi Tags: Super easy, super cute, & the perfect finishing touch to any gift!

so I got some scrapbook paper to put on the backside of the tag. Be sure to save the inside spaces of letters so that you can attach them to the scrapbook paper.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Washi Tags: Super easy, super cute, & the perfect finishing touch to any gift!

Much better, right?

Now it’s time to get busy with the washi tape. I just picked a few tapes that I had to match the bags I was putting the goodies in, and wrapped the white parts of the tags.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Washi Tags: Super easy, super cute, & the perfect finishing touch to any gift!

Super easy! Now grab some twine, and tie those tags on to the bags.

I love the addition of the washi tape to the tags, and I think the tags just make the bags look that much better. Don’t you?

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Washi Tags: Super easy, super cute, & the perfect finishing touch to any gift!

Come on, I know you want one of those bags, don’t you?

What favorite things would you exchange for a favorite things party?

.:Hello Kitty & the KuKee App:.

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and KuKee, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #KuKeeapp http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO.

Clothing and fashion are important to us at our house. Even though my older two girls are only 3 & 4, they certainly have opinions about what to wear. Naturally, I am always on the look out for items that fit within our agreed upon criteria: cute, functional, and pink. (Okay, the last one is mostly my girls, but I do love the color pink, too). The Hello Kitty line of clothing definitely falls within those bounds.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Hello Kitty & the KuKee App

Cute? Definitely. Functional? Totally. Pink? Oh yeah.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Hello Kitty & the KuKee App

My girls were so excited when we got to go shopping at Macy’s to find some of these darling clothes. Along with the two darling sweatshirts shown above, we were also able to snap these cute glitter Hello Kitty t-shirts.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Hello Kitty & the KuKee App

You might have noticed the cute little finger puppets in each of these pictures. Those finger puppets are part of a fun new app called KuKee. The app is available for download on your Apple or Android devices, and best of all: it’s free! Here’s a little infographic to explain how the KuKee app works.

Now, you can scan that marker in to the KuKee app right off your computer screen. I did it to collect that green guy, and my girls have loved taking pictures with him! The really fun part is that you can also find the markers on select items of Hello Kitty clothing.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Hello Kitty & the KuKee App

That pink patch is the Hello Kitty marker. You just scan it into the KuKee app from the piece of clothing,

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Hello Kitty & the KuKee App

and then your children can have fun doing the Hello Kitty puppet show with the new finger puppets that came with the clothing.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Hello Kitty & the KuKee App

It is seriously darling, and my girls are loving their new puppets AND new clothing!

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Hello Kitty & the KuKee App

And remember what I said about the clothing being cute AND functional? The proof is right there; two little girls looking adorable and being able to play – along with some entertainment that came with the clothes! It doesn’t get much better than that!

Be sure to download the KuKee app, and then get over to Macy’s to get shopping!

.:Market Yourself Monday:.

Happy Sunday!

Right now, I am on my trek home to Utah from Oregon. Isn't it always so sad when vacation is over? We've had such a lovely week with my family. There have been 14 kids and 12 adults all staying in one house. It's been all sorts of crazy, but in a good way. The kids have all gotten along so well! I love that we get to do this every summer; it's so fun to see our kids pick up where they left off. I'm sure the rest of my week will involve laundry and recovering from vacation, but I'll definitely be a lot more present on the blog than I have been this week!

Before we get to the party, I just have to share my excitement with you: I've been asked to compete in this season of Project Run & Play! I feel totally honored and humbled to be competing with this fantastic group of ladies. I'm totally terrified, but excited for the chance to push myself and my sewing skills. I will be sure to keep you updated so you can see the amazing creations everyone comes up with! You can see who the contestants are here, and see my little intro here.

Now let's get to the party! The most viewed link from last week's party was:

Now I want to see what you've been working on! I'll be looking for features for Showcase Saturday, so be sure to link back here!

.:Pasta Salad:.

With all of the summer BBQing that we’ve been doing, there have been lots of times when we needed to come up with some great sides to accompany the main dish. This pasta salad is my go-to, and while it works great for a side, it can even be a great meal!

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Pasta Salad - simple recipe that you can easily cater to fit your family's tastes!

This pasta salad is easily adaptable to the ingredients that your family loves, and it’s you can even customize it with the type of dressing that you use.

Here’s what we like in ours:

- noodles
- mini pepperoni
- cheese
- broccoli
- cauliflower
- cucumbers
- carrots
- Italian dressing

If you have veggies that need to be cut, start off doing that.

Cube the cheese and throw that in the bowl. Throw in the pepperoni while you’re at it.

While you are dicing and chopping, you can be boiling your noodles. When they are fully cooked, run them under cold water to cool them off. Mix the noodles in.

Take the dressing and pour a generous amount in. Stir well, making sure you get everything coated.

I like to save some dressing to mix in right before the pasta salad is served. Chill the pasta salad for at least a couple of hours before serving. Then give it a quick toss with some fresh dressing, and you’ve got yourself a tasty side dish or a tasty meal! It’s a favorite in our family!

This pasta salad is great because you can cater it to your family’s tastes. Even the pickiest eaters will be able to find things that they like in this pasta salad. I like to keep a big bowl in the fridge in the summer, and then I’ve got lunch ready for a few days already. It would also be easy to send in your child’s school lunch.

What would you put in your pasta salad?

.:Tutorial Tuesday - Mason Jar Glitter Votives:.

** I was provided with the materials to make this project from Consumer Crafts, but the opinions are my own.

Mason jars are super trendy right now. You’ve probably seen tons of mason jar uses in the blogs you read, browsing Pinterest, and even in stores. Well, I’m getting in on the action, too. I was challenged to create a project using mason jars, and with a super girly house, glitter was a natural choice.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Mason Jar Glitter Votives #craftyjars

Here’s what you need to make some glitter votives of your own:

- glitter (Martha Stewart glitter gives you lots of great options; these neons were speaking to me!)
- tacky glue
- paint brush
- candles

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Mason Jar Glitter Votives

Don’t mind that strand of light and the wood plaques. We’ll get to those later.

Start off by emptying the tacky glue into some sort of container. I used a plastic cup.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Mason Jar Glitter Votives

Add some water in, and stir it around until you get the right consistency. You definitely don’t want this too runny. Mine was borderline too runny.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Mason Jar Glitter Votives

Take the lid off a mason jar, and paint the inside with the glue wash you just made. Dump some glitter in.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Mason Jar Glitter Votives

Put the lid back on the mason jar, and shake the glitter around until it coats the inside of the jar. Add more glitter if you need to.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Mason Jar Glitter Votives #craftyjars

Isn’t that pretty?

Repeat for the remaining colors you have chosen.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Mason Jar Glitter Votives #craftyjars

Don’t they look pretty? You could almost leave the mason jars like that. I wouldn’t mind staring at those babies, all bright and happy!

And look at that, you can even use a mason jar to store the leftover glue wash that you made. So many uses, right?

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Mason Jar Glitter Votives

Now at this point, I had decided that half of my votives were going to be used with candles, but I also had this great strand of lights that I thought could also be a fun twist on a votive. I decided to paint some wood plaques for the other three votives.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Mason Jar Glitter Votives

Once the plaques and votives are dry, they are ready to be used!

We set up our table in our backyard so that we could enjoy the new votives. Now, with three little kids and it staying light until 9, we weren’t really able to get the full effect of the votives. But even in the dusky light, it was nice to have some extra – and pretty – light while we ate. Plus I used citronella candles, so we were also keeping the bugs away! Score!

The light bulbs were really bright, and would be a great way to get some light outside if you are entertaining or just enjoying an evening outside. Luckily we have an outlet right by our table, so this worked great for us.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Mason Jar Glitter Votives #craftyjars

I loved the bright colors of the votives, and of course, the sparkle and shine of the glitter.

Sumo's Sweet Stuff - Mason Jar Glitter Votives #craftyjars

We’ll definitely be using these more before the warm weather goes away!
